Life is raw and real, and there is always a tendency to draw back from it. Honest prayer draws us into life. In prayer we stand with Christ and look at reality with open eyes…the suffering around us and in the world, the pain of our own wounds and those we’ve caused. To hide from pain is to withdraw, but the invitation is to engage…
Christ hung wounded and suffering, immersed in the raw and real…in love…in compassion…taken as far as love can go.
Jesus, give me the courage to sit at the cross, to gaze at your wounds, the weight you carry…give me the courage to look into your eyes, to see your compassion, your invitation. Give me the grace to see where I have withdrawn, those places I have hidden away…and Lord, let us walk into them together.
